Travel just forty-five minutes north on Route 281, and you will come to Canyon Lake, also called The Water Recreation Capital of Texas. When you arrive at Canyon Lake, you will drive along the winding roads of the Guadalupe River lined with Cypress trees and area businesses. You can spend your day with multiple outdoor activities like hiking, fishing, boating, and swimming, or you can tour some local attractions.

If you’re willing to drive a bit farther, Austin is about an hour and a half northeast of San Antonio. Not only is Austin the State Capital of Texas, but it’s also known as the world’s live music capital. There are so many live music venues you’ll have difficulty deciding which ones to attend. Another unique Austin experience is visiting The Congress Avenue Bridge, better known as The Bat Bridge. The bridge is home to 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats flying out from April through October at dusk. The city holds an annual Bat Fest at the end of August. Bandera
Take an hour road trip east of San Antonio to Bandera, better known as The Cowboy Capital of the World. The kids will love this town where they can see how real cowboys live.
