Many people are moving to San Antonio for its beautiful scenery, fantastic food, friendly atmosphere, small-town feel, mild winters, and low taxes. There are several great neighborhoods not far outside the city, and Denise Graves real estate has many premier properties on the market today. Denise Graves and her agents can show you Cordillera Ranch homes for sale, condos for sale in Fair Oaks Ranch, The Dominion real estate, Anaqua Springs Ranch luxury homes, and Shavano Park property. The most challenging part for you will be deciding which of these great neighborhoods will suit you and your family the best.

Since you will be busy searching for the perfect home while in San Antonio, you may want to take a break and get away for the day to clear your mind and gather your thoughts. These four excursions will get you out of the city, and they are all within a couple of hours of drive from San Antonio. You can spend the day, get back for a good night’s sleep and be ready for another day of Denise Graves real estate home shopping.

Corpus Christi

Two hours south of San Antonio, you’ll find the splendid sandy beaches of Corpus Christi.  The waterfront stretches for miles, and the enticing crystal blue waters will draw you in for a full day of fishing, surfing, swimming, or just sitting by the ocean to enjoy the sound of waves breaking shore.

When you’re ready for a break from the wind and the sun, take a time-out and have lunch at Harrison's Landing Restaurant. The menu has a selection of delicious appetizers and entrees featuring a shrimp boil and lobster-crusted flounder. Dine on the patio, watch the boats pass by, and enjoy the cool bay breeze.

After lunch, your next stop can be the Texas State Aquarium. There are so many exhibits you may have to plan a future day trip to cover all of them. First on the list and a kid favorite is Dolphin Bay, where they can see the antics and acrobatics of the Atlantic bottlenose dolphins named Shadow, Liko, Merlin, and Schooner. The Aquatic Nursery, Stingray Lagoon, and Saving Sharks are just a few of the many other exhibits you won’t want to miss.

Canyon Lake

Travel just forty-five minutes north on Route 281,  and you will come to Canyon Lake, also called The Water Recreation Capital of Texas. When you arrive at Canyon Lake, you will drive along the winding roads of the Guadalupe River lined with Cypress trees and area businesses. You can spend your day with multiple outdoor activities like hiking, fishing, boating, and swimming, or you can tour some local attractions.

Stop at Dry Comal Vineyards for a wine tasting or relax with a glass of Texas wine at their outdoor lounge. If you are visiting on a Saturday, there is often live music and food provided by Thorn Hill BBQ. Make sure to visit their website and Facebook page for all event updates.

If you’re traveling with the kids and wine tasting isn’t an option, The Heritage Museum is the perfect destination. The museum is over 25 acres of land, and they provide daily tours of fossil sights with over 200 dinosaur tracks preserved for over 200 million years.

Austin

If you’re willing to drive a bit farther, Austin is about an hour and a half northeast of San Antonio. Not only is Austin the State Capital of Texas, but it’s also known as the world’s live music capital. There are so many live music venues you’ll have difficulty deciding which ones to attend. Some favorites include The Saxon Pub for a taste of the blues and The White Horse for a true Honky Tonk experience.

When you’re ready to sit down and refuel with a good meal, you’ll have to try Franklin BBQ,  one of Austin’s renowned BBQ hot spots. Franklin BBQ, flagged by Texas Monthly, The National Magazine of Texas, as “serving the best BBQ in the known universe.” Located on the historic east side of Austin, Franklin BBQ is known for its succulent, mouth-watering brisket, a favorite of the Austin locals.

Another unique Austin experience is visiting The Congress Avenue Bridge, better known as The Bat Bridge. The bridge is home to 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats flying out from April through October at dusk. The city holds an annual Bat Fest at the end of August. It is an exclusive encounter you won’t want to miss on your day trip to Austin.

Bandera

Take an hour road trip east of San Antonio to Bandera, better known as The Cowboy Capital of the World. The kids will love this town where they can see how real cowboys live. Visit Frontier Times Museum, where there are display cases of pioneer relics, and the Texas Heroes Hall of Fame, which pays tribute to many legendary Texas cowboys.

The Bandera Pro Rodeo is another colossal attraction held in Bandera three times per year in the spring, on Memorial Day and Labor Day. If you can’t make the rodeo, visit Cross G Ranch, where the whole family can take a trail ride on horseback through the beautiful Texas Hill Country. The trail rides can be scheduled at any time of the year and will provide an unforgettable family adventure.
